The
Lettsome Family of the Caribbean (BVI)
My maternal and paternal 4th great grandfather
was named Jeffery Lettsome of Tortola. Jeffery was married to
Theresa (surname unknown) and they had at least four children:
1. Ann Elizabeth "Momzelle" Lettsome, my 3rd
great grandmother, was born 13 July 1852 in Spring Ghut Estate, Tortola.
She married my 3rd great grandfather
Benjamin John
Malone of Tortola.
2. Thomas Frederick Lettsome, was born 17 Feb
1858.
3. Prince Frederick Lettsome, was born 30 Nov
1859.
4. Henrietta Amelia Lettsome, who married Jacob
Gordon.

Grandmother
Ann Elizabeth "Momzelle" Lettsome
Ann Elizabeth "Momzelle" Lettsome is my third great
grandmother. Ann was born 13 July 1852 in Spring Ghut Estate,
Tortola. She married my 3rd great grandfather
Benjamin John
Malone of Tortola on 18 Nov 1875 at the Wesleyan Chapel, East End,
Tortola.
Benjamin Malone died in a drowning accident in Baugher's
Bay with at least two of his brothers. As a widow, Ann Lettsome-Malone
was left to raise their eight children (with the assistance of a
relative known as Sam Malone who lived in The Hope area of Tortola). Ann
Lettsome and Benjamin John Malone's children were:
1. Ezekiel "Butcher" Malone who married
Rosetta Augusta Potter of Tortola, and had
at least four children.
2. Frances "Feeny" Malone who married Buckley
Lettsome and had five children.
3. Rebecca "Lovely" Malone is my maternal 2nd
great grandmother. Rebecca was born about 1884 in Tortola, and married
my 2nd great grandfather Richard Alexander
Potter in 1903. (Note that Richard Potter is the brother of the
same Rosetta A. Potter that married Lovely's brother, Ezekiel Malone.)
4. William A. "Happy" Malone, who married
Clarita B. Pickering and had 11 children.
5. John Alfred Malone was born 1874 and married
Ann Eliza Lettsome of Tortola. They had nine children. John was also
the father of two children with Henrietta Venzen of Tortola, and three
children with my 2nd great grandmother

Vanterpool Virgin Gorda, including my paternal great grandmother,
Ruth Ann
Elizabeth Malone.
6. Thomas Leopold Malone was born 1879.
7. Samuel Malone was born 1881.
8. Frances Ophelia Malone was born in 1892.
