1930, Great North Side, St. Thomas (same family found in 1917 Census... see above)

1. Charles MALONE, head, negro, 52, born Tortola, parents born Tortola, migrated in 1900, farmer on French farm

2. Rosita Hughes, wife, negro, 48, married (I wonder if they were married as she still has a diff. surname), born Anguilla, parents born Anguilla, seller in the market

3. Ena MALONE, daughter, 22, born STT, father Tortola, mother Anguilla, not employed

4.Alma Sprauve, daughter, 20, born STT, father born STT, mother Anguilla, not employed

5. Eldra MALONE, daughter, 18, born STT, father Tortola, mother Anguilla, not employed

6. Leroy MALONE, son, 17, born STT, father Tortola, mother Anguilla, not employed

8. Gwendeline Sibily, granddaughter, 5, born STT, father STT, mother St. Barths

9. Louis Siblily, grandson, 4, born STT, father STT, mother St. Barths

10. Alfredo Sibily, grandson, 1 and 9/12, born STT, father STT, mother St. Barths

11. Albert Webster, grandson, 3 months, born STT, both parents are STT

12. Ruby Davis, adopted daughter, 6, born STT, both parents STT

Note - there was a SIBILY family living nearby almost right next door.  Maybe one of the boys or relatives of the family in that household was the father of Charles MALONE's grandchildren? The head of the house, his name was JEAN SIBILY but the oldest son living there is 9 years old. Jean is 43 and his wife is 41. Their oldest child (a girl) is 12.   I think the enumerator made a mistake about the MOTHER being from St. Barths.  SIBILY is the surname of many French descendants in the USVI.  I think it is the father born in St. Barths  for those grandkids and the mother is born STT.

The BVI Standpoint Newspaper, Feb 2005: Prominent son, Birton Lettsome, passes on. The BVI lost one of its well-known sons, Birton Lettsome, on Tuesday. Lettsome, 54, of East End, collapsed while driving along the Upper Hope Hill Public Road into Road Town, police said. He was accompanied by a son and another male relative, both 13, but they were not injured. A Police Information Office press release said a report of an accident was received at 8:50 a.m on Tuesday and police and personnel from the Emergency Team at Peebles Hospital and Fire & Rescue Department responded. On arrival at the scene, a white Chevrolet motor car, PV 0658 was met on the left side of the road, facing the direction of Road Town, collided with a stone. The driver was met inside in an unconscious state with his seat belt affixed. He was immediately transported to Peebles Hospital where efforts by several doctors were made to revive him but proved futile. He was pronounced dead by Dr. Venkatesh,” police said. There was minor damage to the motor car.

Police said investigations are continuing and an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of Lettsome’s death. Lettsome is survived by his wife Valerie, three children and two grandchildren. He was a General Manager at The Moorings, a prominent member of the East End/Long Look Methodist Church and host of the ‘Morning Devotions’ radio program broadcast daily on ZBVI. A report on ZBVI said Lettsome, a senior member of the radio station’s staff, appeared “jolly as usual” Tuesday morning as he was relieved by Pat Turnbull.

His colleagues described him as a devoted family and countryman. Superintendent Minister of the BVI Methodist Church, Rev. E. Lloyd Brissett, said Lettsome was a “staunch and prominent Methodist. He served faithfully in various capacities in the Methodist Church, for example, Congregational Steward, choir member and a fully-accredited Lay Preacher for more than 20 years. Brother Birton Lettsome died suddenly and tragically. We extend sincerest condolences and deepest sympathy to the bereaved family, Brissett said. In a message circulated to staff, The Moorings said Lettsome served the company for 30 years and always showed employees “unwavering support”.
The funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized. [Nivedta Kowlessar] [Reasercher's Note: Lettsome was the husband of Valerie S. Lettsome, member of the Malone family of Tortola.]
