  • Antoine Vialat: 19 April 1892 Antoine VIALAT sailed from Le Havre, France and arrived at Ellis Island on 18 April 1892 on the La Bretagne ship.  He was a 28-year-old Frenchman, and passenger in the steerage section of the ship.  There is a line drawn through his marital status (might be divorced or single) and his occupation.
1904 ST. LOUIS, PARIS, FRANCE
  • Jules Vialet: 03 SEP 1904: Jules was a French man from Paris. He arrived in New York via Ellis Island on 03 Sep 1904. He was 33 years old, male and married who resided in St. Louis, Paris, France. Jules sailed on the La Sovoie ship from Le Haure, Seine Inferior, France. His occupation is listed as "republican guard." He was attending the St. Louis Convention in NYC. Records indicate he left (with the contingent) on 06 Oct 1904. His passage paid for by Committee of St. Louis Exhibition.
1906 VIRGIN ISLANDS 30 JULY 1906
  • Cecelia Vialet:  Cecelia's ethnicity was recorded as Danish West Indies. She was from St. Thomas . Cecelia arrived in New York on 30 July 1906 on the Trinidad ship which sailed from the West Indies . She was a 12 year old school girl, female and single. Cecelia was traveling with her sister Marie Vialet to her aunt, Mrs. Peters, at 18 W. 995, New York.  Her mother paid her $15 passage. (Note this same address is where her parents Octavia and Charles Vialet have indicated as their "final destination address.)
  • Marie Vialet:  Marie's ethnicity was recorded as Danish West Indies from St. Thomas . She was a 14 year old school girl, female and single.  Marie arrived in New York through Ellis Island on 30 July 1906 on the Trinidad ship which sailed from St. Thomas. She was traveling with Cecelia Vialet to her aunt, Mrs. Peters at 18 W. 995, New York. Her mother paid $15 passage.  (Note this same address is where her parents Octavia and Charles Vialet have indicated as their "final destination address.)
  • Jane Frazer: was a British West Indian, 24 year old single female servant that was headed to the same address as the two girls.  She indicated that Mrs. Peters was her friend.  She was probably escorting the two Vialet sisters to their aunt's house.

  • OCTAVIE VIOLET (Vialet) 19 JAN 1907: Octavie VIOLET (actually Octavia Vialet) was a 39-year-old married female of Danish ethnicity (race, African), residing in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.  She departed from St. Thomas on 13 Jan 1907 and arrived in New York aboard the Carima ship on 19 Jan 1907.  She possessed $60 onboard the ship.  She indicated that she had been in USA before - in 1906, she had visited New York.  Her final destination was 18 W., 99th Street, New York

  • ALBERTA Vialet on 11 JUNE 1907 Alberta is recorded as a Danish African, residing in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. She arrived in New York on 11 June 1907 . She was seven years old at the time. Alberta was a female, single and sailed on the Trinidad ship. Her port of departure was recorded as West Indies . Her record also indicates that she was born in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Danish West Indies. She was four feet tall, and had brown skin, black hair and eyes.
  • DAVID Vialet on 11 JUNE 1907 David was recorded as a Danish African, residing in St. Thomas . He arrived in New York on 11 June 1907. He was eight years old. David was a male, single and sailed on the Trinidad ship. His port of departure was recorded as West Indies . His record also indicates that he was born in Charlotte Amalie , St. Thomas, Danish West Indies. He was four feet, six inches tall, and had brown skin, black hair and eyes.
  • FREDERICK (FREDK) Vialet 11 JUNE 1907: Fred was recorded as a Danish African, residing in St. Thomas . He arrived in New York on 11 June 1907. He was four years old. Fred was a male, single and sailed on the Trinidad ship. His port of departure was recorded as West Indies . His record also indicates he was born in Charlotte Amalie , St. Thomas, Danish West Indies. He was three feet, six inches, and had brown skin, black hair and eyes.  Notation: These three children (Alberta, David and Frederick Vialet) are siblings as all three records indicate they were going to their mother Octavia Vialet at 201 West, 64th Street, New York City. Their passage was paid for by their father.
1908 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • CHARLES VIOLET (Vialet) 28 MARCH 1908: On 28 March 1908, Charles departed from the port of Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas on the Guiana ship.  He arrived in New York, via Ellis Island on 08 April 1908.  He was a 39-year-old married male, who gave his occupation as a goldsmith.  His ethnicity was listed as "Denmark" of St. Thomas, Danish West Indies.  His race was recorded as African (black).  Charles provided the address of his brother, a "T. Vialet" as an address of contact in St. Thomas, Danish West Indies.  Charles' final destination was New York, where he would join his wife, Octavie Vialet at 15A West, 99th Street, New York. He did not have a ticket to his final destination, but he had $30 on his person, and had paid for his passage himself.  Charles was recorded as six feet, one inch tall, with a black complexion, black hair and brown eyes.  There is a notation that Charles had "eyesight lost in right eye."  He was born in St. Thomas, D.W.I.
1909 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • OCTAVIA Vialet Octavia Vialet was recorded as a Danish African. She arrived in New York , through Ellis Island, on 18 June 1909 . She was 41 years old. Octavia was a female, married and sailed on the Parima ship. Her port of departure was the West Indies . Octavia was traveling with her son Frederick (Fredk) to meet her husband, Charles Vialet at 183 West, 134th Street , New York . She was five feet, four inches tall.
  • 1909, FREDERICK Vialet (FREDK) Fred was recorded as Danish African, from Saint Thomas , Danish West Indies. He arrived in New York , through Ellis Island on 19 June 1909.  He was six years old. Fred was a male, single and sailed on the Parima ship from the West Indies . He was traveling with his mother, Octavia Vialet, to meet his father, Charles Vialet. This record gives his place of birth as New York in 1903 (says he was born in New York in 1903). Fred was four feet tall.
1922 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • 1922, CHARLES Vialet Charles was recorded as being of Danish ethnicity. He sailed from St. Thomas on 23 April 1922 , and arrived in New York on 29 April 1922.  He was 51 years old. Charles was a male, married and sailed on the Parima ship from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas . He was born 20 Nov. 1870 , in St. Thomas , Danish West Indies. (Notation: The record says U.S. Virgin Islands but at the time of his birth, the Virgin Islands were still owned by Denmark ). His address is 161 W, 136 Street, New York City
1924 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • 1924, CHARLES F. Vialet Charles was recorded as Danish ethnicity. He stood five feet, 10 inches tall and had brown skin, black hair and brown eyes.  His residence was New York , USA . Although this record indicates he had been born on St. Thomas , the manifest notes that Charles had been in the US from the age of 10 years to 1924, in New York City . There is a notation on the manifest that indicates Charles left the USA on 17 May 1924 . There is also scribbled writing that Charles had medical certificates and that they were "justified."  Charles arrived in New York on 28 Nov 1924 on the Guiana ship from St. Thomas , US Virgin Islands . He was 54 years old, a male and married. He paid his own passage, and was going to his wife, Mrs. O. Vialet at 2257, 7th Avenue, New York City.
1910 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • 1910, JOSE HIDALGO Vialet Jose was recorded as Danish African from St. Thomas . He arrived in New York through Ellis Island on 11 Feb 1910 on the Korona ship, which sailed from Georgetown , Demerara, British Guiana . Jose was six years and four months old. He was recorded as a single male, three feet, seven (?) inches tall, and place of birth indicated as St. Thomas , Danish West Indies. His father paid his passage to New York to meet Elvira Chetatuan, indicated as his cousin, at 211 Buffalo Avenue , Brooklyn , New York.  There is a notation that his "cause of detention" was to attend the hospital on 19 Feb 1910.  It appears he was in a hospital and discharged.
1912 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • 1912, THEODORE Vialet Theodore was recorded as Danish African from St. Thomas.  He was 34 years old, a male and single. He was five feet, eight inches tall with brown skin, black hair and green eyes. He was born in St. Thomas, Danish West Indies. Theodore arrived in New York via Ellis Island on 24 July 1912 on the Korona ship which sailed from St. Thomas. Theodore was going to visit a friend, E. Ebershadh at 18 Broadway, New York. 
1914 HAVANA, CUBA
  • 1914, ALFRED VIOLET (also known as Alfredo Vialet or Alfred Vialet) 03 NOV 1914: Alfred was a 15-year-old, single, male when he arrived at Ellis Island on 03 Nov. 1914 on the Havana ship.  He had departed from the port of Havana, Cuba on 31 Oct 1914.  He was a second cabin passenger. The manifest indicates that Alfred was U.S. born - born 1899 in New York, NY.
1918 VIRGIN ISLANDS
  • 1918, OCTAVIA VIOLET (Vialet) On 03 May 1918, Octavia VIOLET (actually Vialet) arrived in New York via Ellis Island on the Saga ship.  She had departed from the U.S. Virgin Islands on 28 April 1918.  She was a 50-year-old, married female from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (formerly Danish West Indies).  Her birth date was given as 11 Oct. 1867 in St. Thomas. This manifest also indicates that Octavia was a naturalized U.S. Citizen (as a result of Denmark's sale of the Virgin Islands to the USA in 1917.)  Octavia provided her naturalization number, dated 21 Nov 1917.  Her address in New York was 114 W, 134 Street, New York.  Octavia was traveling with her grandson, Francisco De Silva, who was two years old at the time.  Francisco was listed as U.S. born, and his date and place of birth was 12 Aug. 1916 in New York (#42238).
1918 HAVANA, CUBA
  • 1918, MERCEDES T. de Vialet (Mercedes TERRY de Vialet) Mercedes was a Cuban African from Havana , Cuba . She was a 40-year-old married female. She was five feet, six inches tall. Her place of birth was Florida, USA . She had black skin, hair and eyes. Mercedes was traveling with her daughter, Elva Vialet, who was born in Canada.  She arrived in New York, via Ellis Island, on 11 Sep 1918 on the Esperanza ship which sailed from Havana, Cuba.  Mercedes paid for her own passage to meet her husband, Alfredo Vialet at 136 West, 124 Street, New York.
  • 1918, ELVA Vialet Elva was recorded as Cuban African. She was female, single, 14 years old, 4 feet, 5 inches tall. The manifest indicates her place of birth at Canada.  Elva arrived in New York, via Ellis Island , with her mother Mercedes de Vialet on 11 Sep 1918. They sailed on the Esperanza ship from Havana, Cuba. She was traveling with her mother Mercedes T. de Vialet to go to her father, Alfredo Vialet.
1918 HAVANA, CUBA
  • 1918, JAELIN VIOLET Jaelin VIOLET was recorded as Great Britain, African residing in Havana, Cuba. She was a 30-year-old single female. She arrived in New York via Ellis Island on 11 Sep 1918 on the Esperanza ship which sailed from Havana, Cuba . Jaelin was going to visit her sister at Alfred Darlington's home - the address was 34 Guilified Street, Watertown, Massachusetts.

MARSEILLE, FRANCE
  • 1920, ANDRE Vialet Andre was a white, 37-year-old, French male. He arrived in New York via Ellis Island on 03 May 1920 on the Canada ship, which sailed from Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhone, France. Andre was an oiler (crew) on the ship. Shipped or engaged in 1920 (?), from Marseille.
  • 1921, ANDRE Vialet Andre arrived in New York again in 1921 on 03 Feb. He was now 38 years old. He arrived on the Fremantle ship, which sailed from Marseilles, Bouches-du-Rhone , France.  On this trip, Andre was the chief fireman on the ship and was shipped on 07 April 7 (year not indicated) from Marseille, France.
1920 HAVRE, FRANCE
  • 1920, MARIUS Vialette The vessel Leopolinda sailed into the port of Ellis Island, New York on 05 Nov 1920 from Havre, France.  Marius Vialette was a coal passer crewman on the ship, which departed from Havre on 25 Oct 1920.  He was a 27-year-old Frenchman, able to read, 5 feet six inches tall at 133 pounds.
1924 BORDEAUX, FRANCE
  • 1924, JEAN Vialette Jean Vialette was a 33-year-old Frenchman that arrived at New York via Ellis Island on 21 Jan 1924. The La Bourdonnais ship deported from Bordeaux, France on 02 Jan 1924; he was employed as a coal passer on the ship, and had been a seaman for one year.  He was five feet, four inches tall and weighed 130 pounds and he was able to read.
  • 1924, JEAN Vialette Jean returned to New York again 26 Feb 1924.  He sailed on the La Bourdonnais from Bordeaux, France via Halifax on 13 Feb 1924. He had served just one year at sea.  He was a crewman aboard this ship, employed as a coal passer.  He was 33 years old, five feet four inches tall, 143 pounds.
  • 1924, JEAN Vialette Jean was still 33 years old when he returned to New York via Ellis Island on 11 April 1924.  He was a fireman on the La Bourdonnais which sailed from Bourdeaux, France on 27 March 1924.  Jean was five feet four, 145 pounds.  His name, along with several others were crossed off this list, with initials at the end "JAC", no explanation as to why his name (or the others) was crossed off. Usually this was done when a passenger was discharged.
1953  
  • 1953, HOWARD VIALET.  Howard was 27 years old when he departed from the port of St. George's, Newfoundland, Canada and arrived at New York on 21 Dec 1953 aboard the General Stuart Heintzelman ship.  His estimated birth year was 1926.  He was listed as a waiter aboard the ship.
1954  
  • 1954, HOWARD VIALET.  Howard was 27 years old when he arrived at the port of New York, New York aboard the Geiger Ship on 06 Oct 1954.  He was listed as a utility man aboard the ship.

PASSENGER LISTS - ENTRY INTO FLORIDA, USA

1909 LUIS VIALET.  Luis Vialet was a 54 year old widow when he entered the USA aboard the Mascotte ship which disembarked from Havana, Cuba and arrived at Key West, Florida on 04 May 1909.  His occupation was a tailor, but he could not read/write.  He was a native of Cuba, born in St. de Cuba.  His last residence was in Havana Cuba.  He listed his nearest relative as his son, L. Vialet #12 Salud, Havana, Cuba.  His final destination was Key West, Florida.

1911, ALFREDO VIALET.  Alfredo was 34 years old when he entered the USA aboard the Ollivette ship which disembarked from Havana, Cuba and arrived at at Key West, Florida on 07 March 1911.  He was listed as a Cuban, African, born in Cuba and residing in New York, USA.  His profession was listed as musician.  He listed his father Luis Vialet as nearest relative where he came from (address illegible).  His final destination was New York, NY.

1911, JUANA VIALET.  Juana Vialet was 30 years old when she entered the USA aboard the Ollivette ship which disembarked from Havana Cuba and arrived at Tampa, Florida on 22 March 1911.  She was a married, African Cuban female of no listed occupation.  Her last residence was in Cuba (address illegible) and she was born in Cuba.  Her final destination was Tampa, Florida.

1911 NATIVIDA VIALET: Nativida Vialet was an 18 year old, married female who was born in Tampa, Florida.  She entered the U.S. at the port of Tampa, Florida from the port of Havana, Cuba on 20 Aug 1911 aboard the Masscotte ship.  She had no occupation listed, could not read/write and the address of her nearest relative in Cuba was illegible.

1913 MAURICIO VIALET. Mauricio Vialet was 19 years old and single, born in Tampa, Florida, USA.  He entered the U.S. from the port of Havana, Cuba aboard the Ollivette ship which docked at Key West Florida on 17 June 1913.  He was an African Cuban whose occupation was listed as a (maker?). His nearest relative in Cuba was his father, Luis Vialet at #12 Salud Street, Havana, Cuba.

1915 MAURICIO VIALET and MAURICIO VIALET: Mauricio Vialet was 20 years old single male, and a U.S. Citizen, and his occupation was listed as a (maker?).  He listed is father, Luis Vialet in Cuba as his nearest relative, and indicated his last residence was in Havana, Cuba.  He entered the port of Key West, Florida aboard the Ollivette ship on 27 March 1915, and his final destination was Miami, Florida.  The younger Mauricio was 11 years old aboard the same ship.  He listed his mother Marcia(?) Vialet as his nearest relative (addresses illegible).  He was a student.  There is a notation that the younger Mauricio was released from the ship into the care of his aunt, Mrs. B. Joseph.  The younger Mauricio was destined for Key West, Florida.  Both Mauricio's were classified as Africans (black), but were both U.S. Citizens.

1920, EMILIA VIALET:  Emilia was a 18 year old, single female listed as a Cuban African.  She departed from the port of Havana Cuba aboard the Governor Cobb ship and arrived at Key West, Florida on 31 March 1920 (note the date is crossed out and a written 01 April is written above the original manifest date).  Emilia's occupation was a dressmaker, spoke Spanish and was able to read and write.  Her nearest relative in Cuba was her father, Luis Vialet and his residence was 37 Salud Street, Havana Cuba.  Her place of birth was Havana. Cuba.  Her final destination was listed as Havana, Cuba which might indicate that she planned to return to Cuba.

John Henry VIOLET (Vialet) died 13 June 1846.  He was 1 year, 6 months old, the son of John and Elizabeth VIOLET (Vialet).

Miss Genevieve Vialet died  07 July 1954 at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at her residence 627 Buealla (?) Drive.  Miss Vialet taught school for two years at Campy, and for 34 years at Baton Rouge High School and and Baton Rouge Junior High.  She was a member of St. James Church and the women's auxiliary, and past treasure of the AAUW.  A graduate of the Louisiana State University Class of 1918, Miss Vialet was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma.

The daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John L. Vialet, Miss Vialet is survived by a sister Miss Marguerite Vialet and a brother John L. Vialet, both of Baton Rouge.

Services will be held at Rabenhorst Parlors at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, and at St. James Episcopal Church at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Marguerite Vialet died 1 a.m. Thursday, 18 March 1993 at her residence in St. James Place.  She was born 05 Dec 1907 in Hope Vila and was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge.  She was a Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation secretary to the controller.  Memorial services will be held at St. James Place at 2 p.m. on Saturday.  

She is survived by two nephews, John Vialet of Chevy Chase, Maryland and David Vialet of Canton, Missouri, and a niece Elizabeth (Vialet) Duby of Slaughter, La.  She was a life member of the St. James Episcopal Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Survived by his wife Mrs. Nellie Merle EADS Vialet of Slaughter, La., formerly of Calhoun City, Mississippi; two daughter Mrs. Winston (Elizabeth) Duby of slaughter and Mrs. Paul (Anne) Harrison of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons John L. Vialet of Chevy Chase, La., and David E. Vialet of Jackson, Miss.; a sister Marguerite Vialet of Baton Rouge; and six grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. John L. Vialet and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Temple Vialet; and a sister Genevieve Vialet.

He was a member of Slaughter Methodist Church and Milford Lodge No., 117, F&AM.  Friends desiring may make memorial donations to Slaughter Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son Travis Harrison, a sister Elizabeth (Vialet) Duby, two brothers John L. Vialet and David E. Vialet.

John David Vialet Died On Sunday, September 14, 2003 At His Parents Home In Gautier Mississippi. Age 31 Years - B. D. January 17, 1972. Residence Of New Orleans, Louisiana. John David Was Born In Baton Rouge La.

He Began His Formal Education In Elementary School In Ocean Springs, Ms. Where He Lived With His Mother Aimee Gautier Dugger And Stepfather Dr. David L. Dugger. 

Over The Years, He Also Attended Primary And Secondary Schools In New Orleans, La. And Pascagoula Ms. He Attended College At Millsaps University, Jackson Ms, LSU In Baton Rouge, La. And Graduated With Honors From Tulane University New Orleans, La. With A Major In Art History. He Began His Postgraduate Work With Auseklis Ozols At The New Orleans Academy Of Fine Arts.

He Was Continuing His Post Graduate Work At The New York Academy, Working On His Master Of Fine Arts Degree In Figure Painting And Witnessed The Events Of 9-11-01 From The Brooklyn Bridge. This Was The Impetus For Much Of His Subsequent Artistic Work And The Subject Of His Largest Work On Canvas Which Was To Be Part Of A Greater Sequence Of Large Works Entitled 'Unity In Diversity', Celebrating Not The Tragedy Of 9-11, But The Diverse Yet United People Of America Who Survived The Event. 

At The Time Of His Death, He Was Teaching 5th Grade At St. Stephen Catholic School In New Orleans, La. John David Was Known To All As A Kind And Philanthropic Individual Who Supported The Arts In Education. His Untimely Death Leaves An Uncompleted Artistic Legacy. 

He Was Preceded In Death By His Grandparents, Nellie Merle Eads; John Lewis Vialet Of Baton Rouge And Slaughter La.; Marie Aimee Warren And Hermes Quin Gautier Sr. Of Pascagoula Ms.; George Leon Dugger Of Jackson Tennessee, His Biological Father David Eads Vialet Of Jackson Ms. And His First Cousin Pedro Gautier Of Pascagoula, Ms.
